With the capabilities of smart phones in this day and age, it’s no wonder consumers are being more convinced into buying one of these lavish devices. Not only can you check your email on the go but, there are apps for just about anything, whether it’s simply for entertainment purposes or important travel information. Chances are then, if you want, you can find it.
Two of the leading market holders for smartphone devices are Apple, with its iPhone that originally launched back in July 2008 and Google, with its Android that launched in November 2008.
However, what is the best device for apps? Which device comes out on top? Who would win the app war between Apple and Google?
Top 10 Free and Paid Apps as of 26th October 2011:
Both of these devices could be evaluated at countless angles, but when it comes to apps, whether they are paid for or free downloads they seem to equalise. Even though Apple offers four times more apps than the Android Market, the most popular and even mission-critical apps are available on both, such as Facebook Messenger, What’s App Messenger and Angry Birds.
Nonetheless, when it comes to gaming and game apps in particular, it seems Apple are way ahead. Going on this week’s app downloads 7 out of the 10 top paid for apps were games, and 8 out of the 10 free apps were games or entertainment related.
This isn’t to say Google don’t offer game apps, they do and in fact 7 out of the 10 paid for apps were games themselves. However, when it comes to free applications, it seems Android users are less interested in being entertained, but more interested in communication related apps; apps that are perhaps more beneficial for business workers who need quick turnarounds.
Although, both Android and iPhone users tend to be male, it seems the age ranges vary. Android users tend to be slightly younger, with 55% of Android users under 35, compared to 47% of iPhone users under the same demographic. This is surprising considering the most popular downloaded apps this week for both categories and devices.
